This article will show you how to program your Traxxas electronic speed control. These programming steps are the same for the XL Your Traxxas electronic speed control may require periodic programming to maintain optimal performance. If your vehicle stops responding to throttle input, if you would like to change to a different mode, or if you switch from NiMH batteries to LiPo batteries you will need to go through these programming steps.

Read through all of the programming steps before you begin.

If you get lost during programming or receive unexpected results, simply unplug the battery, wait a few seconds, plug the battery back in, and start over. Press and hold the EZ-Set button A.

The LED will first turn green and then red. Release the EZ-Set button. When the battery voltage attempts to fall below the minimum threshold, the speed control will shut down all motor output. The LED on the speed control will slowly blink red, indicating a low voltage shutdown. The speed control will stay in this mode until a fully charged battery is connected.

Press and release the EZ-Set button to turn the speed control on. The LED will turn off and then light green. Also, a "rising" musical tone will be emitted from the motor on brushless equipped models. The LED will turn off and then light red. Also, a "falling" musical tone will be emitted from the motor on brushless models. The speed control should be connected to the receiver and battery, and the transmitter should be adjusted as described previously.

The profiles are selected by entering the programming mode. Connect a fully charged battery pack to the ESC and turn on your transmitter.

If the motor has no power and the speed control is very hot, the speed control has entered Stage 2 Thermal Shutdown Protection and has automatically shut down. Let the speed control cool. Make sure your model is properly geared for the conditions by referring to the gearing chart in the model's manual.

The LED on the speed control will slowly blink red, indicating a low-voltage shutdown. If a battery with too high voltage is used, the speed control will go into a fail-safe mode.

If the motor has lower than normal power and the VXL-3s is hot, the VXL-3s has entered Stage 1 Thermal Shutdown Protection to guard against overheating caused by excessive current flow.

Let the VXL-3s cool.

Whatever it is I just typed Hopefully dead battery and not dead esc. It's a mah and only takes on recharge. I got longer out of it this time, but seems to behave a bit irrationally on the road, and then, sure enough, the red light starts blinking slowly on the esc.

Not sure how to detect voltage on each cell of the battery? Charger i'm using is core rc uac Most if not all good chargers will be able to tell you the voltage for each cell. If yours cannot, you will either need to use a cell checker or a multimeter. Also, do not expect to get full mAh out of the pack during normal use. Cheers Jimmie - very helpful! I managed to find the button on the charger and it shows you voltage as you charge.

Showing around 4v one each cell during charge, reaching 4. So i guess that is as it should be?!? Check the voltage after your ESC is doing its red blinking light thing Let us know when you can!!

It's only slightly under as i haven't used much juice - about 4. So you just ran it and it shut down at 4. Is the voltage the same for all cells? If yesRemember Me? Results 1 to 8 of 8. You are maybe in lvc for lipo? Are you running lipo or nimh? Is it a Vxl or xl5. I am running lipos with the xl5, and I don't think any ratio mode has been initialized because it still runs great once the light quits blinking. Call traxxas Try the throttle trim. I bought a VXL, and it did not come with batteries so I used my mah Nihm traxxas battery, but it will run for about a minute or two then the esc starts to blink red and I can't turn it off. I've heard of this lvc, but I don't know if it is that.

Do you have a temp gauge? I can't remember what the blinking red meant, but you should try letting the system cool down before running it again. Sometimes the ESC will get stuck on a particular mode when you're switching back and forth between lipo and nimh settings. Personally, I'd recommend ditching the nimh batteries and just using lipos.

Nimhs are pretty gutless batteries for brushless systems. Get yourself two mah 7. Joined: Dec 25, Messages: 4, Likes Received: 1, You must log in or sign up to post here. Show Ignored Content. Share This Page. Your name or email address: Do you already have an account?

Guys i don't think its LVD, i think its a throttle trim problem you will need to reprogram your esc to set throttle trim. Originally Posted by Agriganosa. Originally Posted by bigdaddy I am with harry I would be checking the throttle trim.

May be something wrong with your transmitter. If you want to go brushless, I'll buy your esc so you can put the cash towards your new setup. LMK if you're interested. I would try one more thing. Recalibrate your ESC. There are instructions in your manual. If you are going to go brushless you may want to consider upgrading your radio at the same time, if you don't already have the tqi. I don't know about the xl5 but the vxl blinks green when there is too much voltage coming off the battery, I had this issue with a 9 cell pack quite a bit when it was fully charged.

May or may not work, but that's always been the fix when mine do that. Could also be a bind issue between the transmitter and receiver. I have the same problem my esc is blinking green very fast and won't go forward or reverse but servo works.

Only thing different is my rustler is the xl5 that I upgraded to vxl so my remote does not have a throttle trim??! So how do I fix it?? Heres the key. It worked for me. This naturally is conditioned upon you have a binding rudder works and no red lights.
